Does This Sound Abusive? If So, Wake Up, America!

Firearms Law Blog - Thu, 04/22/2021 - 10:49

There is a post going around social media that I believe warrants discussion. The post, started by an unknown author, goes: Can you tell me if this sounds abusive? posting for a friend.... My friend's husband won’t let her visit any friends or family. He has made her stop all contact with them unless it’s … Continue reading Does This Sound Abusive? If So, Wake Up, America! →

CRS Report Informs a Go-Along Congress on Planned Biden ‘Ghost Gun’ Ban

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Thu, 04/22/2021 - 05:55

The report also provides some nebulous “justification” political talking points, like  “it appears that the use of unmarked ‘ghost guns’ in shooting sprees, shootouts with police, and other crimes have also increased,” along with some anecdotal incidents to emphasize the point. What it does not do is quantify the scope of the perceived “problem” or qualify how such a rule change will do anything more than infringe on the rights of those inclined to obey laws. [More]

But if you object, guess what that makes you...

'Community Standards' Strike Again

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Wed, 04/21/2021 - 09:33

[More -- and NSFW warning if you click on/enlarge this]

I went to the DC Metropolitan Police Department Facebook page looking for a potential photo for an AmmoLand article I'm prepping for publication and came across this. Interesting, that FB said my wishing everyone a contemplative Bill of Rights Day violated its "community standards" within minutes of it being posted, yet this has been up for three days.

I wanted to get this posted before they take it down. I wonder if the Secret Service knows...?

Riot Act Reading

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Tue, 04/20/2021 - 18:24

I know I said for the time being, as my wife recovers, I'm going to limit blog posts to article announcements and the like. I'm breaking my own rule here, but this is, after all, my blog.

I just got done watching the pre-ordained Chauvin "guilty" verdicts and I saw something I considered curious about CBS News' go-to guy for their after-action discussion, Lorenzo Boyd, the University of New Haven's VP for Diversity and Inclusion and CDO. I wonder how many noticed what I did on his bookshelf:

That would be The Marx-Engels Reader:This revised and enlarged edition of the leading anthology provides the essential writings of Marx and Engels--those works necessary for an introduction to Marxist thought and ideology.Like I said, I just find the good doctor's literary interests and CBS News' choice of him as the reasoned voice of urban justice a mite curious, especially in light of "trained Marxists" heading up Black Lives Matter.
Eh, I'm probably making something out of nothing. It's not like "our friends across the aisle" are getting more brazenly in-your-face about their intentions, is it?
And no, sorry, this doesn't mean I'm back to blogging as normal, so please continue to hold back on newslink tips. I probably will, though, as time permits, add occasional posts like this when I see something that I don't see anybody else commenting on and happen to have a couple minutes to spare.

Fox News: Biden 'praying' Chauvin jury reaches 'right verdict,' calling case 'overwhelming' President offered support in Monday call with George Floyd family

Crime Research (Lott) - Tue, 04/20/2021 - 15:30

Look at how the main stream media reacts differently to Trump making comments on the legal process versus Biden. From Fox News:

As the nation awaits a verdict by the jury in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, President Biden said on Tuesday he is "praying the verdict is the right verdict."

Briefly speaking with reporters at the White House, the president discussed his call on Monday with the family of George Floyd, the Black man in Minnesota who died after he was seen on video – handcuffed – saying "I can't breathe" as Chauvin kneeled on Floyd's neck. His death sparked nationwide protests last spring and summer over police brutality against minorities and systemic racism.

Chauvin is charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd's death. He has pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

BREAKING: FPC Condemns Leaked Biden ATF Gun Control Plan to Further Infringe on Fundamental Rights

Firearms Policy Coalition - Tue, 04/20/2021 - 14:45

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 20, 2021) — Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) was made aware of an apparently leaked ATF document, captioned “Definition of ‘Frame or Receiver’ and Identification of Firearms,” detailing the Biden administration’s first set of plans to further regulate firearms. After an initial review, FPC Law determined that the proposed new regulations contained in the document would give the ATF new and expansive powers to attack the right to keep and bear arms, particularly the right to self-build arms for lawful purposes. A copy of the document can be found at and at The Reload, a new publication founded by prominent firearms journalist Stephen Gutowski.

‘Aggressively Centric’ McConaughey May as Well Be a ‘Leftist’ on the Right to Arms

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Tue, 04/20/2021 - 11:20

Supposedly adult Americans exercising their right of self-determination vote for celebrities based on all they know about them—which is generally “informed” by scripted, directed, optimally angled, and lighted images projected on a screen, and on the gushing praise of publicists. That they would cede great powers based on professionally-manipulated illusions speaks more to starry-eyed childishness than anything else. [More]

Ultimately, it's citizenship malpractice that gives political power to stage props like this.

U.S. Supreme Court Denies Review of Three Second Amendment As-Applied Challenges

Firearms Law Blog - Mon, 04/19/2021 - 12:48

I am extremely disappointed and surprised to announce that this morning, the U.S. Supreme Court denied certiorari in three Second Amendment as-applied challenges. The cases were Holloway v. Watts’ Tweet Reveals Racist, Sexist Motivation to ‘Replace’ White Men

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Mon, 04/19/2021 - 11:34

Watts’ tweet introduces another chilling motivation, “replacement theory.” And that’s doubly curious because the “political left” smears and tries to discredit citizens who object to the Republic being culturally terraformed for political power. [More]

I'm Back. Sort Of.

The War on Guns (Codrea) - Sat, 04/17/2021 - 10:59
At least she got a helicopter ride out of the deal...

About that family medical emergency: My wife was in the hospital, the neurological intensive care unit. She's home now. She suffered a stroke. The good news is, so far speech, motor skills, and vision appear unaffected and the prognosis is hopeful.

She was outside pulling dandelions from the yard, and when she came in she suddenly was slammed with a headache she equated with a hammer blow, followed by excruciating pain. We went to the nearby Cleveland Clinic hospital. A CAT scan showed some bleeding and they airlifted her to the main campus where they have more specialists.

An MRI and angiogram, and several days of tests, concluded it was a benign perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage. Say that five times real fast. They determined there is no active bleeding, and she was told it is unlikely to recur. I guess if you're going to have a stroke, she says, that's the kind to have.

What this means for me is, with her being on ordered taking-it-easy for a while, I get to confirm exactly how much she does around this place by assuming those duties myself.

The result, at least for the interim, is that when I do find time for internet stuff, I'll need to focus exclusively on my articles. That means this blog is going to have to be limited to my article promotions and announcements. I'm just not going to be able to respond to email or social media inquiries and newslink tips, at least for the time being. So please, hold off while I figure out how much time I'll have for the necessary things and how to best apportion it.

I would like to thank those of you who, reacting to Monday's post, sent prayers, best wishes, and offers of help. It's gratifying to think that what I do resonates with a handful of my contemporaries. As you can imagine, it has been an intense past few days that included no small amount of frustration at being powerless to help her and fearing the worst.

For what it's worth, I don't blame the dandelions and will not be demanding any laws.
