Police sift through clues

WESTFORD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a shooting over the weekend in the quiet town of Westford sent two people to the hospital. The Middlesex district attorney's office says the shootings at 48 Forge Village Road were first reported at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

A man was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was described by authorities as being stable. A woman was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and was reported in critical condition. Authorities did not release the victims' identities.

Prosecutors say the shootings do not appear to be a random act and residents of the town are not in danger. There was no immediate word on an arrest.

This story is so common that I had to add my own two-cents, about sifting through clues. In a nutshell, it seems we have: State has draconian, prohibitive laws against guns. People attack other people for some unknown reason. Some people go to hospital. Police show up somewhere in that timeline. Police don't know what happened. And then eventually, whether or not guns were the actors in this crime, State adds new laws against guns, citizens feel safer now.

Since the newspaper didn't say it, we will say it here: we hope that the parties injured will heal and recover from their injuries. And also since they didn't say it, if the guns were the problem, why didn't they arrest the guns?
