Pawtucket police search for suspect after stabbings at birthday party

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Four people were stabbed and another man was assaulted early Sunday morning after dozens of people crashed a birthday party and the celebration turned into a brawl.

Around 3:30 a.m., Pawtucket police got multiple 911 calls about a melee at 981 Main St., where officers found several men who’d been stabbed. Three men from Providence, another from Pawtucket and a fourth from Boston's Roxbury neighborhood had been injured — including some men who tried to break up the fight.

Jonathan Calixte, of Pawtucket, who was a guest at the party, was critically injured and underwent surgery at Rhode Island Hospital, said Detective Donti Rosciti. There was no information on his condition Sunday afternoon.

Kyle Sims, 26, of Boston, told the police he was stabbed in the back when he tried to help his friend Calixte. Jonathan Mondesir, 24, of Providence, told the police he was shoved to the ground and punched when he also tried to stop the fight. Andray Love, 24, and Jeffrey Pierre, 30, also of Providence, were both stabbed in the melee and were treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Despite the small guest list, word apparently spread about the party for Simon Clayton’s 29th birthday, and then 50 people arrived at the residence, according to police.

Some got into an argument outside, and that led to the fight. There was no detailed description of the suspect.

Police ask anyone with information about the fight to call the major crime unit, (401) 727-9100, Rosciti at ext. 737 or Detective Dave Silva at ext. 760.
