Democrats cling to their guns

An editorial at The Washington Times ( http://www.washingtontimes.com/ ) tells us that "Obama scares women and liberals into the gun store." The article explains how "many of the firearms that have been flying off the shelves in the past two years were purchased by Democrats and women."

We are not sure what they mean by the term "Democrats and women," but presumably they mean that these two possibly-overlapping segments of the new gun-buying public are different than the stereotypical male gun-owner and enthusiast. And to be clear, we have our editorial tongue slightly in cheek here as well.

But the data is clear: more and more people of all kinds and all political persuasions are buying guns and ammo. This begs the question: who is left to tell us that we should not exercise our civil rights to gun ownership?

<blockquote>
Violent crime has been on the decline as the number of people carrying guns has soared, so it’s obvious that the anti-Second Amendment crowd has been lying to us all these years. Crime cannot be wished away by enacting laws that only restrict what the law-abiding can do. As this truth sinks in, more gun grabbers will be converted into gun owners.
