New rules in Londonderry NH?

My wife and I recently applied for our carry permits in Londonderry, NH. We are both 49 years old with no arrests in our lives. Not even traffic violations. For both of us, this is a renewal. My permit was issued in 3 days. My wife just received the following letter from the chief of Police William R. Hart...

"Sheila (not even Mrs. X),
In reference to your recent application to carry a concealed weapon, I would like to set up a meeting with you before issuing the permit.

Feel free to contact me to set up an appointment at your convenience."

Sincerely,

William R. Hart
Chief of Police

I phoned the Chief and questioned why my wife was singled out. I hinted that I knew the law and was concerned about her rights. He said, "That's my name on the permit and I need to see that she is a reasonable person."
I was concerned about two things...Profiling and attempting to get my wife to say something wrong in an interview of "loaded" questions. He also stated that he was aware that I was familiar with the law and that he was in compliance with the law and his duties. When I mentioned that I may contact the State Attorney General about the matter, he seemed un-affected.

Any comments?

Familiar?

I am reminded of the quote that says "never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity." It could be that the chief is merely trying to make you feel comfortable, by using your wife's first name, for example.

It could also be that if he needs to "see" your wife, it could mean that he is wondering if she is reasonable based on some visual affectation, whether it is race, height, or even cup size. None of these reasonable "visible" qualities seems to exist in the RSA that applies here, and being a suspicious (and law-abiding) person, I would ask for more clarification before I made a decision.

Your mileage may vary.
